Just under an hour and a half away from the land of skyscrapers, the quaint town of Cold Spring, NY is waiting for you to visit.

Whether you decide to rent a car for the day or take the Metro from Grand Central, this naturesque fall day trip is the perfect getaway for any New Yorker. Cold Spring offers the best of both worlds, with a long strip of shops and restaurants, and calming walks near the Hudson surrounded by plush green mountains...yes, I persauded my boyfriend into this day trip by constantly talking about the small hikes we could take, and not really mentioning how I'll likely be spending 3 hours visiting each store the town has to shop in. :)

As always , I'm not going to go in depth about my personal experience but tell you more about the location and places I recommend you visit while in Cold Springs.

Hudson Walks & Views

Essentially, Cold Spring is made up of one long street with its shops, eventually leading to views of the Hudson and easy walking trails. This street is called Main Street- shouldn't be that hard to remember if you ask me.

If you've driven to this location be prepared to spend 20 minutes looking for street parking, the area is safe and surrounded by cute homes, so no need to panic. Once you've parked and found Main Street, there will be a little tunnel that'll surface directly at the Hudson, with bench seating and the start to walking trails. If you've decided to take the Metro, the drop off spot is right near this tunnel- super easy to find.

Here is the view once you've arrived:

Shops & Restaurants

I'm going to suggest you visit all the shops and restaurants that Main Street has to offer, as all of them are fun to walk through, each with their unique vibes and inventory. What I'll mention below, were a handful of my favorites:

Cold Spring General Store- I bought a pair of gold diamond hoop earrings here, so I'm putting this first on my list of recommendations. The General Store is a great combination of all of what Cold Spring, NY has to offer. The store has a combination of home decor, clothing and accessories, unique liquors and snacks, and a super cute flower shop in the back. This store emulates the overall aesthetic of what the town is all about.

Swing- I am OBSESSED with this store, and I almost past it up while walking by. Thank God, I hadn't. The clothing store, Swing, has an array of handmade vintage-inspired clothing, so any piece you were to buy would be completely unique and one of a kind. It's the perfect combination of chic and vintage, without any feel of looking outdated. Swing carries everything from fall jackets lined with fun silk patterns, funky dresses that you can dress both up or down, cute masks because duh, Covid, and retro little accessories and shoes to complete any outfit. The brand also creates its clothing out of the "dead stock" of other companies and sewn in the city's garment district, so anything you buy from here, you can feel super good about. 🤍 Sustainability is the wave of the future when it comes to fashion, and so far, this brand is killing it. 🤍

Le Bouchon- Le Bouchon is a french restaurant with great wine and even greater food. I was able to sit in the back garden surrounded by greenery with background noise of trickling water from a stone fountain- so, as you can imagine, I had a wonderful time here. The restaurant was super peaceful, the staff was beyond friendly, and all I'm thinking about is that I need to go back and try Le Bouchon's cheese board and escargot.

I could keep going on and mentioning every store on Main street but I'll stop here...for now. What I will remind you of though, is that amongst these stores, there are also numerous coffee shops to choose from and playful galleries to visit.

Although being a hippy town, it still caters to the stylish and conveniency needs every New Yorker wants, whether they'd like to admit it or not.

In conclusion....Plan this as your next fall day trip!! The later in fall you go, I promise you, the more beautiful the area will become (aka autumn leaves).

xoxo,

Han
